My Reviews
My book group loved this book for its inspiring message!
What a beautiful story. It took a turn I was not expecting.
This is a gripping story of life in North Korea, seen through the eyes of six defectors who left in the 1990's when there was a huge famine in that country. It is upsetting and unbelievable at times. And maybe what is most upsetting is the lack of knowledge about the atrocities going in North Korea to this day. I can't wait to talk about this in my book club!
My entire group enjoyed this book very much. Beautifully written story full of moral dilemmas and how one bad decision can affect others.
My book group absolutely loved this book! It's the true story of a secretary at the Ghanian embassy in Washington who became king of a small fishing village in Ghana. King Peggy cleared out the corrupt government and brought the villagers running water and schools. The story is told with great humor. Apparently it is optioned for a movie starring Queen Latifah. What fun!
I'm so glad J.K. Rowling has branched off into detective stories, and her detective is a loveable guy with a perky assistant. It's well-written with nice twists and turns. The book group all loved it.
This book provided an interesting look into the justice system from a privileged girl who got caught working as a drug mule. If you're worried that it will be graphic like the TV show, don't worry. In fact, at times it gets a little slow as the author tells of her daily life behind bars and her relationships with the other inmates. There is great fodder for discussion, though. My group was not impressed with the actual writing, but the subject matter was fascinating.
This was a light read, but the book group loved it.
