My Reviews
There is more than one story running through book. It is a challenge to keep all the characters straight. Good intrigue and suspense are plenty. The social commentary is important to world events happening right now. I couldn't put it down. I liked all the characters but Lisbeth is my favorite. It was fascinating to watch how she questions herself and the changes in her thought. The good guys (and gals) win...
This is an outstanding book of courage and spirit in regards to a POW during WWII. It is a piece of history that few know about and is a testament to the hardships suffered by our captured troops. It is also the story of not only survival but the will to overcome and succeed...
An excellent read by an outstanding author.
There were funny parts, confusing parts and mistakes through the book. Some of us liked it and some did not. Apparently they are a series?
An inspiring true story that takes place during the 1936 Olympics (Germany, Hitler). It shows the individualism vs Hitler's state rigidity as the Americans "think out the box" as they row against Hitler's German Team.
This book chronicles a little known period in our history. It tells the story of an orphan set on a train from New York City out to the mid-west, to be adopted. Even though this story is fiction, this occurred to about 200,000 children from 1854 to 1929. It is told from the view point of the grown child to a young foster teen. It was heartbreaking at times but difficult to put down and a must read in my humble opinion.
AS I become older, history seems to have more meaning for me. There is so much we don\\\'t know. Some might find this a tedious read but if you are interested in how our country came to be this book will provoke thought and insight. It would be interesting to know if the British archives have the name of the woman (#355) spy. After all they are taught the name of the person who fired the \\\"shoot heard around the world\\\" that started the whole thing. We in the US are taught that no one knows!
Even though it wasn't my favorite book, it was an insightful must read for all those who live by technology. It could also be a warning for the future... It is a pure example of how certain people can basically become brainwashedI! I did not like the ending as it left you hanging in my opinion.
This was a very entertaining book about a woman who turned out to be very courageous. I thoroughly enjoyed the beautifully descriptive writing. I love when I can picture the setting so easily. Our book club enjoyed the book and used Pamela’s questions for a very lively, entertaining, and informative discussion. A good read...
I love descriptive novels that give me a visual picture of the settings. Annell was very successful in this. She also used historical buildings which was very interesting. We were able to FaceTime with her and ask questions about her characters and the ideas she portrayed. It’s a book about discovery, friendship, and love. There are powerful quotes in the book well worth a discussion!
This was an interesting concept. The best part was where men were being mistreated and complained about it versus them thinking nothing of having treated women in the same way in the past.
I did find it dark and confusing but feel it leads to a good discussion.
