My Reviews
Gone Girl was not my usual choice of book. I found it a compelling read. I lurched from disliking Nick and feeling sorry for Amy to finding Amy quite creepy and liking Nick. At the end I felt sorry for both of them. Ultimately they were a desctructive couple that deserved each other...
Well first of all I adore Adriana Trigiani and I have read all of her books. This was suggested by one of our friends. I love the setting, the historical references and the descriptive detail she puts into all her books.
In our bookclub, however, the differences of opinion was very mixed indeed. Two of our group loved it and it quite possibly could be a \"favourite\" of theirs. They cried as they read it. Whereas two others were very bored with it and thought it was slow to get going, quite interesting in the middle and too quickly finished at the end. Some commented that it was poorly written in their opinion. Personally I liked it, typical Adriani Trigiani, she spins a beautiful love story through the ages and you end up feeling like you know the main characters. It\\\\\\\'s a lovely read but it did split our club down the middle.
As I said, this is not what I usually pick up. I found it a difficult read and had to make myself finish it. Interesting and funny in places - I laughed out loud a few times!! The description of early family days and the vampire lesbian dog were hilarious!!
I\\\'ve never really thought much about the whole feminist movement thing, but it was insightful and persuasive. I think about feminism a bit more now. I liked it overall. Interesting and funny in places.
I really enjoyed this book. I was nervous to begin with because it starts with a father \\\"giving his child away\\\" ... I couldn\\\'t think of any reason why you would choose to start a book this way!! But it is so beautifully written and so heartfelt I was hooked.
It was a little confusing at times. There were many characters and the time frame jumped forwards and backwards by years but I just flicked back through the book to remind myself.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of reading this book and will try his others.
Every member of the group thoroughly enjoyed this book. We loved both Vianne and Isabelle and how their individual strengths impacted the unfolding storyline. An informative and heart wrenching read that opened our eyes to the involvement of the French in WWII and the bravery of the Resistance.
You will not be disappointed x
A really well written book interlinking past and present and characters. Thoroughly enjoyed by most of our group.
I liked this book. Being a mother of a teenage daughter the same age as Amelia, it made me think, do I really know what goes on? It has made me more aware of the power of social media and how important it is for us to educate ourselves as well as support our children in this new era. Social media will shape how our children view the world, it has already started to affect their perception of how they fit into society. With "likes" and "dislikes" and the instant feedback they get. Keep your eyes open parents ... Enjoy the book.
