My Reviews

The Bestiary by Nicholas Christopher

We had a good discussion regarding the different layers of the book.

The way the chapters began in this book really grabs your attention. You will enjoy being with Xeno, Lena and Bruno as they mature. This book can be enjoyed on two levels, the superficial or for the ultimate beast that we encounter outside ourselves. The beasts of this life must be pursued rather than allowing them to pursue us. Xeno slays his beast in search of The Bestiary. We particularity enjoyed the use of historical events and personalities in this novel. Those facts gave the story more authenticity.

We had a good discussion regarding the different layers of the book.

Our book club all enjoyed the book. We live in a resort community with many retired and elderly people. We felt it gave us insight into their lives. We like the way the book was written, i.e. the past/present at the same time.

Interesting, Informative, Optimistic
Mr. Poitier is not a writer.

I like Sidney Poitier but did not particularly care for this book.

The Confessions of Catherine de Medici

Our club enjoyed the book, we felt Catherine was treated better than Juana (The Last Queen). Women are getting better treatment in the years between the queens. That is a good thing! Several in our book club had traveled to France and had toured many of the palaces. That made for interesting discussion as well.
