My Reviews
I loved this book. The characters pulled me in - I loved some and hated others, but I couldn't stop reading about either
This book had been sitting on my shelf for quite some time before being selected as a group read for a book club I am in. I have to say that I am SO glad it was chosen.
I really enjoyed his writing style, and how I found out things slowly, kind of how Kathy did. Yes. There were times when I wanted to jump into the book and yell at Kathy for her lack of emotion to what she was finding out about her life, but then again, I think that was the point.
What I really liked about this book was the different ethical subjects Ishiguro broached so subtly - science, fate, free will, and many others. There was never a time when I felt any one of the areas was put above another - it simply left it for the reader to decide what side of the issue she fell upon. The book makes you think about the ethics of scientific advancement, and life.
While most of us in the group didn't enjoy the book, we ended up having on of the best conversations. I have found, in the many years of being in a book club, that sometimes the worst books lend themselves to the most interesting conversations. This was definitely one of them. While I didn't like the book while reading it, I left our meeting with a greater appreciation.
