We knew very little about Guernsey and this period in history. We loved the characters and the landscape.
The book is beautifully written but the characters weren't all believable and the dialogue didn't always sound authentic. There are many charming as well as disturbing parts.
The book is one that is almost painful to read but so compelling you can't stop. Characters are so true and real and the story reminds us of racism in this country.
Our book club thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and then watching the movie. Audrey Hepburn was a perfect Holly Golightly.

Some found the book too wordy while others embraced the language. The book can contribute to a rich discussions about the role of women, the role of women, and life in ancient and modern times.
