My Reviews
This book was an interesting moment in time that changed the cookbook and cooking world. It was the start of the cuisine we know now as American cooking. We were leaving the traditions of stringent French cooking and finding our own voices.
This books is taken from the letters and journals of the people involved in the gathering in the winter of 1970 in Provence and their individual thoughts, remembrances and wishes for the future. All the great American foodies were to follow their lead- Alice Waters being one of the most famous.
This is a biography and should be read as such. If you like cooking and want to know more of the personalities this is a good read.
A fact filled book that gets too technical on the winemaking chemistry. The history of the time (French Revolution, Napoleon and N111) is interesting as well as the history of champagne. Overall it is a hard read.
