My Reviews
"This book's topic is very surprising for this time (1940s) ; it is very contemporary as it helps reflect on our own questions, our own selfishness. It would be interesting to rewrite it in a contemporary set up, as the problem of "how old you look" is even bigger."
"This book helps focus on what reality matters"
"The style of the author is great : words are simple but convey a lot of depth."
"You can derive a lot from this book".
This book has been rated very differently by the members of our book club. Some really enjoyed it, some not at all. The main key seems to be the understanding of the British Society. Some members could relate to the eagerness to be accepted in society. The fact that the story builds up step by step, very gradually, with suspens, has been very much appreciated.
A long reading - sometimes too long - which gets you to deep dive in the history of slave trade. Well researched and informative, still a good narrative to keep you going.
