My Reviews
I received an Advance Reader Copy through netgalley.com. The US version will be released August 20, 2013.
I first discovered the talent of Jojo Moyes when I read Me Before You (5*). My next read by Moyes was The Last Letter from Your Lover (3*). The Girl You Left Behind (GYLB) is a nice blend between the two writing styles. Like Me Before You, the story grabbed me from the beginning and kept me turning the pages late into the night to find out what happened next. GYLB is similar to The Last Letter because it has alternating points of view and timelines. Part I starts off with the German Occupation of France in WWI; whereas, Part II is 2006 London. I feel this type of narrative is being overused lately by several authors, but the method worked for GYLB. Each plot line had enough depth of characters and details for an immersion in both stories. Moyes does a fine job of weaving both of the stories together to a satisfactory conclusion. I look forward to more books by Jojo Moyes.
