My Reviews
We have all been awaiting the final (?) adventures of Harry Potter and his friends. Everyone has talked this summer about Snape--good or evil? Now we finally know. This volume is easily my favorite of the Harry Potter series and was a great review of the past books as well as bringing all the loose ends together. However, the plot was more than recap and resolution--towards the end I literally could not put the book down and read well into the night to finish it. Despite hearing that the author does not plan a sequel to the series the end would lead you to believe otherwise!
We were pleased to have the author of Stillbird at our book club meeting. She is well educated, speaks well, and is in every way an advocate for women and women's rights. I find this an odd contrast to the violence, slavery and incest which is the backbone of this work.
The Lost Symbol is THE BEST of the series and I became intrigued by the science of Noetics--which I have since read a lot about. As far as Brown goes this book is second only to Digital Fortress as far as impact and sheer entertainment go. (Previously Angels and Demons held that honor.)
This book is about two generations of a real (with slight literary leeway) family. The adventure and historic events stand alone, however the relationships and variation of personal reactions/recollection are a major draw for this book.
The family reunion theme touched many within the group especially the genealogists. I think all of us came away with a new view of how we see our ancestors and why.
This would be a great book for family members to read prior to attending a family reunion. Perhaps even a book discussion as it relates to their own family memories.
If you like satire you will love this book.
A wonderful treat for readers to come across a book about books and their characters while at the same time a satire/mystery.
