My Reviews
This book is beautifully written but requires dedication to complete. The characters are well developed and intertwine from story to story, weaving a tale throughout time in a small, poor village. It's sometimes hard to relate to the characters, who are not necessarily likeable, but they tell intriguing tales.
The book goes slow at the beginning. If you are not a Jane Austen fan, the book is mostly dull. The characters are tied to specific books and development of their lives are intertwined with Austen characters. It would have been better if I had actually been interested in Austen at some point.
We watched the movie just to match characters and see what Hollywood did to the story. I felt the movie lacked as much as the book did.
Recommended if you've read or like Jane Austen; otherwise, read something else!
This book is highly entertaining and quite addictive. The characters are well presented, and the plot moves quickly. All in our group enjoyed this book. We had a lively discussion about the time period, the characters and the plot. Or course, the movie had just been released so we're curious as to what had been included and changed from the book.
Highly recommended!
