My Reviews
Most of our club had difficulty even finishing this book (I think only two people did, out of 10), it was very dry. Someone mentioned they felt this book could have been summed up in a magazine article. That sounds just about right to me.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. It was so much more than I thought it would be. There are many different levels of the book to discuss and it made you feel good at the end. I was hooked in the middle of the first chapter. I highly recommend this book to read!
I cannot explain how many ways I loved this book! The characters were so well developed and you completely believed into it. The many twists and turns kept you reading and reading--I had trouble putting it down! This is a must read--that's all I can say about it.
Incredible, well-written, quick read.
Although the premise of this book is fantastic and you would think it would be a hit out of the ballpark success, I did not really enjoy this book. The characters were not developed enough, I didn't really feel myself empathizing with them, it was rather 2 dimensional. Maybe it was the way the narration was done--although I couldn't really see doing it any other way--but I just didn't feel connected to them at all. I hear it's coming out as a movie--I think it will actually do better as a movie--and you don't often say that!
Our club seemed to really like this book and had much to talk about it. We would recommend it without reservation.
NO ONE liked this book--I couldn't even get through the movie of it--horrible!!!!
I cannot say enough good things about this book, I loved it from the beginning to end, didn't want it to end, couldn't put it down while reading it. I even loved the movie, which almost never happens when I have read the book. Highly recommended!!!
Our club enjoyed discussing this book and everyone enjoyed the book that read it.
I know, I know, I am ducking at all the people who are Austen fans and love her works, but I have tried numerous times to read them, even listen to them read in audiobook fashion and I can never make it through. Out of the 10 of our book club, only 2 read it, the rest tried and gave up, or watched the movie instead.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. A lot to discuss and great for book clubs.
If I didn't know she wrote them both, I would have never guessed it. Our club mostly liked the book, until the one pivotal point in the end in which we didn't really "buy it" any more. I don't want to go into specifics to spoil the plot. That being said, there were plenty to talk about and it was an enjoyable read.
Overall, we had a lot to talk about with this book--it brought up a lot of discussion. Even though none of us liked the ending to the book, we still would consider reading another Jodi Picoult book for our book club, especially since we know she picks controversial topics we can really tear apart.
