Proof of Heaven

Felt like I was reading a book about a vivid dream to Disneyland...there were the scary rides, and the not so scary rides...and no convincing story about any type of connection to the Heaven that I am dreaming of. Jesus\' name was never mentioned.

This book was engaging from the moment I picked it up. The story had twists and turns along the way. It was cleverly written and evoked all kinds of emotions. Kept me glued to the pages!

The Night Circus

This book kept me up at night. The imagination displayed by the author kept me wondering...."how in the world can you think this story up." I felt a little guilty in that it made me feel I was delving into some witchcraft, but I decided it was all fantasy and just a good amount of fun entertainment.

A Thousand Splendid Suns

Just finished this book last night...it was another one of those "can't put it down." It was very sad! The poor circumstances these women were thrown into was proof that life will take you where it wants to. As they were trying to make good choices, their good choices turned into really bad choices! I asked myself if I would have chosen differently? Probably not. Great read!

The Imperfectionists

Made me feel a whole lot better about my own life...many of these characters had a pointless existence. Most of the characters had no real meaning to their lives. It is sad to know if there are people out there who live these types of lifestyles. However, it was interesting to see the circumstances, the reasons how they became who they are, and that they were all tied together in some fashion. Difficult to keep the characters separated...will have a book club meeting soon on this book and I doubt I can remember "who done what"?

Wonderful read....had a problem with the style of the letter-writing at first, but then started over, slowed down, and really enjoyed the contents of the letters. Really explored the big moments and little moments that make up life along with a good history lesson.

And The Mountains Echoed

Good book....interesting as to what happened to the characters and how their lives turned out. Easy to root for the character(s) but seemed like things never quite turned out well for any of them...caused you to want to read the entire book but kind of sad you did.

The Wedding Gift

The book started off somewhat slow but it got better as you read along. Interesting in regards to the way of life back then. Unfortunate how human beings were treated and ghastly how family could treat one another. However, bravery and hope rule the day!

The Girl You Left Behind

Wonderful story....interesting with the two different realms of time coming together to explain what happened to the families. There were times the book left me confused in regards to some of the characters, but it was overall a well written book. The main thought of the book for me was some of the choices that we make in life...was it for the best? Was it a mistake? Did my choice benefit anyone? I would suggest this book as a good read.

"The Kitchen House"

After trying to read four previous books that I could not get in to, I was so excited to have a book in my hand that I could not put down. "The Kitchen House" was inspiring, dramatic, addictive. I felt like I was there with this family ~ experiencing all that was going on in their lives from the safety of my own home. It was sad, it was happy, it was hopeful, it was dire....the book caused me to stay up at night, not wanting to put it down. In the end, loyalty amongst the servants/slaves was the best quality of this book.

Flower Language....

Wonderful book ~ took it to the beach. Many times, did not want to put it down. Opened my eyes to how circumstances can reflect on a person for their entire life. I did get a little tired of the main character's continued mistakes but in the end, she seems to pull her life together thanks to flowers. Interesting how the meaning of flowers impacted her life.

Where the River Ends

The question was "where does the book end?" I am sorry but I couldn't even finish it. It was hard to get into, hard to follow, depressing, etc...But, I am not going to give up. Will attempt to read other books by this author in the future. Believe everyone should receive a 2nd chance!

The Storyteller

This book had many characters to remember but it all came together rather nicely in the end. I have always been interested in the Holocaust and I loved the different viewpoint of this book - coming from a fictional character. This story brought me to question what would I do in that circumstance. How could humans treat other humans that way? Does one ever really regret evil actions that were committed in the past? It combined past and present gracefully through the many different "storytellers" and would be an exceptional book for a book club.

The Obituary Writer

Interesting book discussing the parallel lives of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Experiencing grief in different eras, they understand one another at the end of the book. Entertaining, but the ending left you hanging somewhat....I like closure...must be a sequel on the horizon.

The book delved into the real content of friendships. She had friends but these were friends that you die with - until the end when she decided it may be too much for them. It was an interesting look into relationships and how the clarity of life evades the friendships when you know your time is waning. Honesty, longing for more time, and the basics of life are put front and center in this book.

Someone Knows My Name

A well-written, well-researched account of slave trading from Africa, to America, to Canada, to England. I loved being educated by this story but also having a wonderful \"chunk of meat\" to the life and times of Meena. It was a \"can not put down\" type of book!
