Another great non fiction book for a book club pick! We enjoyed this book! What a story, and in today's world of DNA and detective work, the serial killer would have been caught a lot earlier. Very interesting description of how the Worlds Fair in Chicago was put together! My book club enjoyed this book!

Double Cross

This book is about five very different characters for all walks of life, who became double agents i. World War 2. They participated in espionage at great peril, and were successful in convincing the Germans that the D Day invasion would happen in a different place, other than Normandy. This book was difficult to read because each double agent had handlers on both sides, and more than one code name, as well as various other sub agents and characters. I had some trouble keeping track of all the characters involved, that said, this book is worth reading, especially for history buffs!

My Name is Mary Sutter

This book was great! Mary Sutter is a brilliant young midwife who longs to become a surgeon. The outbreak of the Civil War gives her the opportunity to pursue her dreams, but at a very high cost to her, emotionally, physically, and mentally. This story is graphic in the descriptions of war, but is also a story of love between family members, and the two surgeons who fall in love with Mary. A must read book!

A beautiful, true story about Snowman, an older plow horse who was saved by Harry, a Durch immigrant. Harry was an expert horseman who was the riding instructor at an exclusive girls school on Long Island, in the late 1950's. He bought Snowman to use for training, and what happens next is unbelievable! I loved this book! It is about the love and trust between a man and his horse! They were the underdogs in the national horse jumping competition, but went on to win, two, years in a row. I fell in love with Snowman!! It is a wonderful, true story!

Very interesting read about Thimas Jefferson's daughter and the life she lead. I love history and this book gives the reader a window in to what Colonial life was like for the upper classes. Weather women didn't have an easy life back then, with very few rights. The book also delves in to Sally Hemmings and the relationship she had with Jefferson.

This is a really sweet story about Ove. He has lost his wife and is consumed with his grief and is very closed minded about allowing others in to his life. He carries around grudges and is generally miserable, until get gets to know his new neighbors. This book is about the transformation of Ove. A very beautiful and uplifting story.

Re Jane

This was a fun and light read and gives the reader a chance to learn about the Korean culture and how difficult it was for the main character to grow up in her uncle's home in NYC. She feels like an outsider in her own family because she is half American. She never felt wanted after her mother died and she was pawned off on her uncle in America. This book takes you from NYC, and then to Korea as we follow Jane in her quest to find happiness and to figure out where she truly belongs.

This is a beautiful story that takes place in the 1920's in Alaska. The author based this book on an old Russian fairytale about a childless couple who builds a snow child, and she comes to life. The author takes us on a journey through the wilderness of Alaska and you can actually feel how cold it is while reading the story. This book is about life and love, challenges and losses, hope and loyalty. I really liked it!
