My Reviews
This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. The characterization is fabulous...the pages just kept turning! Highly recommended!
This story kept me entertained from page 1 to the end! I read it over 5 years ago; can't find my copy and would love to read it again! Highly recommended!
This is a remarkable book. It gives tremendous insight into life in India and I loved the characters that Gregory Roberts created. I think the fact that he lived through prison gave his writing about prison great credibility. I found the book interesting but long and in places it was too violent.
There was lots to like about this book but not all of our members felt that way! Most found that it moved too slowly and they never really developed an interest in the characters. Those of us who enjoyed it really liked the setting of the book and the feel of the north that Elizabeth Hay developed. Quite a mixed rating and the book club of my sister all rated it very highly.
Most of the members of our club highly enjoyed this book. It had a great Southern appeal with memorable characters.
Our group was split pretty much half in half with this book. Some loved it and some hated it! We all agreed that it was a very dreary setting and some found the ending to be unrealistic. Just a few thoughts!
Everyone in our club really enjoyed this book. Great choice!
Our club was divided on this book. Three of us absolutely loved it and gave it top marks and two didn't like it much at all. We had a great discussion though! From my summary you could probably guess that I was one that loved it. Although the story was heartbreaking I found it really hard to put down and loved the characters so much. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to anyone!
Most of our club had reservations about this book. There is no doubt that Greg Mortenson is a remarkable man and that his accomplishments are phenomenal. I will definitely pass this book on to our library so others can read of his humanitarian efforts. Had this not been a book club selection I probably wouldn't have finished it but I'm glad I did as the story was worth telling.
If anyone selects a Daphne DuMaurier book for their club I highly recommend doing some research on the author to share with your book club members. She had a fascinating life!
We all really enjoyed this book. It provided a lot for discussion, it was funny and interesting. Great pick!
Laurali Wright does a remarkable job creating characters that you really connect to. All of our members really enjoyed this book and plan on reading more of her books.
Leif Enger writes a remarkable story. Laugh out loud funny in places and deeply touching in others. Superb writing.
We all loved this book! There was a lot of lively discussion, characters were superb. Highly recommended!
After reading Ahab's Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund I was really excited to get into this one but it just didn't do it for me! I found it long and tedious and I didn't think she developed her characters as much as in Ahab's Wife. A couple of our book club members enjoyed it though and it was ok for discussion.
Great discussion book and full of ideas how a person can make a difference in this too material world.
I found this book to be very engaging at the beginning but towards the end it lost me. Not really realistic but a good story about people and relationships and who your family really is.
I read this book a few years ago and it rates up at the top of one of my favorite books ever! Absolutely awe inspiring, read it! You won't be sorry!
