My Reviews
This is a brilliant description of one teenager's journey from a loving home to addiction to finding her own personal loving home and her preparation for living a full life. Isabel Allende artfully weaves all of her story together into an addictive read.
The story was captivating, but the content was often repetitive. While I'm sure that Jessica thought the same thing many times while in captivity, presenting it to the reader is different. The descriptions of her captors were quite vivid and brought me closer to being able to experience her revulsion and terror. All in all an interesting read, but not great literature.
Whether another book club should include it depends on the nature and focus of the club, but I put thumbs up because it was a good story and I was forced to pick up or down in order to submit my review.
