My Reviews
Beautifully written. Poetic. Haunting. The story of Japanese picture brides coming to America and what they experience living here. Small book that manages to pack in a lot of information. Written in an interesting style.
Amazing story of Louis Zamperini - true grit and salvation.
RETRIBUTION is an uplifting, challenging, yet emotionally riveting story of three generations of Chilean women. Their lives are torn apart, as is their homeland, and this novel charts their journey of struggle and survival from one home to the next. What binds them together is their love for each other. I learned a lot about Chile, its history and politics, and gained an insight into the courage and resilience of the Chilean people - especially during the Pinochet\\s reign.
Really enjoyed reading this book and how the author presented facts to debunk some popular thoughts. Didn't care so much for his earlier book "BLINK." Can't wait to read his latest book "David and Goliath."
This is a great book despite the genre. It says something profund about the human condition with a strong message; and yet, it is a joy to read. Winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards.
Fascinating non-fiction book that reads like fiction. You\'ve probably read the description about the book already so I won\'t be redundant. I will say that this book will provide lots of discussion with your book club about many things. If you select this book for your book club, make sure to read my \"Do you have suggestions\\\" section below. There\'s an article by Jim Hinch that does a great job of presenting the \\opposing side\" for this popular book. I think it is a must-read and will help present a different viewpoint.
I attended two book clubs discussing Hilary Mantel's WOLF HALL. Both groups had people in both camps: you either love the book or hated it (well couldn't finish it; were confused by the writing, etc.). I loved this book. You feel as you're walking around London with Cromwell back in time. Wonderful writing. Brilliant historical novel.
Set in the 1950s, I thought the author threw in so many tidbits of historical facts. Peppered with information comes to mind or everything but the kitchen sink. It was distracting from the flow of the story. Yet, I am glad I prevailed in finishing the novel as I enjoyed it. Suspenseful political thriller.
Our book club didn’t like this book yet found it made for a good book discussion Makes one think “what if” women had the power.
