My Reviews
Slow for the first few chapters, almost didn't read it. I was encouraged by other book club members to keep going and I'm glad I did.
Enjoyable light read for the Regency era. I learned things about Dancing Masters. The society rules were so different, yet the human hearts longed for similar things.
Enjoyed this book, I will read the sequels.
I am already a fan of Nicholas Sparks writing so this book was very insightful on his life and relationship with Micah.
Historical fiction in England and Egypt in the 1930s, with insights into autism of one main character in the book. Throw in a mystery and a little romance and you have a good read!
I enjoyed the story but also learned so many things about happenings in WWII that I had never known before.
Slow to get into. Author was very descriptive in scenes and characters. Vocabulary was difficult because of the time period so remote from current time.
We had a very lively discussion with this book. Both about the author, her family and of course the recipes/baking. I left the meeting glad I had attended.
Learned new things about Pres. Lincoln\\\'s wife Mary and her seamstress Elizabeth.
I found the book hard to get into but about half way through I was hooked and so glad I stuck with it. The last chapters were full of twist I hadn\'t expected. I would recommend this book to others.
Good character descriptions.
Slow starter.
Didn\'t care for the ending.
Book brought excellent discussion with our club.
I knew very little about Charles Lindbergh (other than headline news) much less his wife. So that\\\'s why I chose informative as a descriptive word. Insightful in the day in time of their lives and how they interacted with each other.
I learned a lot about WWII I didn't know, I'm so grateful for all that the military endured for freedom. The details in Louie Zamperini were amazing. I rated it with four stars because I didn't handle the tortures in the POW camps well (nightmares). I wish there would have been more on his life after his conversion.
Author had good insights in to multiple type/personalities of women. I enjoyed the book.
Excellent writing of a difficult disease.
We had a lot of good discussion at our meeting.
Quite a story! I learned many new things about rowing and a time in our history. I liked the personal story of the people the best.
I thought it was a little too detailed in some of the narrative. I wanted it to "move along."
The author's way with words was beautifully descriptive. The darkness of the story was heavy at times but I couldn't let go of the story. Wish the ending wasn't such a downer!
Small town story full of characters that pulled you in to the book. I enjoyed the book but I had to get a third of the way through it before I really started to enjoy it.
It was an easy book for discussion at our meeting.
I found the book to be full of insights into the White House families, those who served and cared for them, and new information about how our White House is taken care of.
This book is an example of why I enjoy reading! Liked the writing style, characters, story line, etc.
Our whole book club liked this book and thought the author did an insightful job intertwining the two main characters. This book also inspired great conversation at our meeting.
I didn't finish the book, it went into too much detail. It was also difficult to keep so many characters separate.
There are so many well written books available to read. I finally gave up on this book. Even our book club discussion pointed out soooo many things that were negative. Profanity and sex scenes aren’t what I look for in a good book.
Seldom do I stop reading our Book Club selection but this was one time I did. I didn’t find the “humor” funny. I didn’t relate to even one character in the book.
I stopped reading it after 100 pages but was encouraged by others to keep reading. I’m glad I kept going. The story line is interesting but the characters were what drew me in to the story. Willa, of course, was the star character, I loved her.
