My Reviews
I don\'t usually read romance but this book is more than just romance. This book has stories yes a main story but stories in the story that tie everything together. There were times in the book where I was cheering and times when I was angry and times when I was sad. Any book that involves me this much is a must read for everyone.
good beach read...quick read...I said it was inspiring because it teaches trust
Everyone loved this book. It brought to light how far we have and how far we HAVEN'T come in the problem of equality. We were disappointed in Isabelle's father.
This was not a book I wouldvhavevpicked for myself, so I am very glad our club picked it. It was a fun interesting read. I learned about Savannah. A few of our members had visited Savannah and loved visiting again through the book. I loved the characters.
It was a lively discussion at our meeting. Most people were drawn to the book and characters from the beginning of the book. We found very it informative on a subject most of us knew little about. It was very well written and many group member plan to read more Chris Bohjalian books.
The book got more interesting and addictive as I read it! I loved it. It had many twists and turns..RECOMMENDED!!!
I was very interested in the life the children lived and how it shaped them. It made me realize how much we have and Don't realize it. I admire Jeanette.
Ethan frome was a man who took care of people all his life. First his parents then his wife. He was a quiet man who seemed to live a sad life. He had hopes and dreams but always put them aside so he could take care of others. Why really did he not act on his dreams? Was he using taking care of others as an excuse. I wanted him to be stronger and do something ! I read this book many times and each time came away from it with a new thought. I got angry with each of the three main characters at different times.. I watched the movie a few times and it is very close to the book. My book group visited THE MOUNT in Lenox Ma the home Edith Wharton built. We all loved the book..
I loved this book. The characters came to life for me and I find myself thinking about them even though I have finished the book. It was informative and truly made me feel blessed to live now and not then.
Women were not treated well by many men who treated them as second class citizens and treated their slaves even worse. I know their were good men but many were overbearing and controlling. I feel like I got a front row seat to this.
A 7 year old boy whose family has lost its money is forced to take in borders. When one of the borders commits suicide the girl at the neighboring farm takes him to her house. This helps him stay away from the traumatic suicide scene. The family next door is different maybe even supernatural. At age 47 he comes home from a funeral and finds himself back at the neighbors farm....I found it very boring and slow moving for such a short book. Possibly just not the genre I like
I love this book! I picked it out for my book group. I didnt know if it would be thought of as a good pick because it wasn't our usual novel. Our members loved it. It is fun, inormative andventertaining. It made me want to explore more (and I have been) about the women in this book.
Alice opened her eyes and didnt know what happened or where she was. What? She fell at the gym? But she didnt go to the gym. Who were these people?
In this book we follow Alice as she tries to figure out what happened in the last ten years if her life. It's an interesting story, that makes you wonder, what would happen if you forgot the last ten years of your life. I loved this book. It kept me guessing , what did happen in those ten years.
I wasn't very interested in reading this book, then a book group member suggested it. I loved it! I could not put it down! I applauded Elizabeth through the whole book. I realized how much women were not valued in the 50's. I loved how Elizabeth stood up for gerself. My book group (all women) had a very animated discussion on this book. I am in a second book group with both women and men. The men loved it too. They actually understood what Bonnie Garmus was saying. My favorite book of 2023.
