My Reviews
Beautifully written with a profound moral choice that was the core of the book. Each character had flaws and strengths and our club found most points of view sympathetic. Excellent choice for duscussion
We liked the book and the time period in which it\\\'s set. It was a pleasant book with an interesting plot although most of us had figured the plot out long before it unfolded.
Our community picks a \"read\" each year. Fox Cities Reads this year was \"Wonder\" so our book club chose it as our monthly selection as well. We agreed the teens were universal, poignant and insightful. Terrific book for all ages!
Felt this story was very predictable with characters that were stereotypes. While it was readable, felt the ending was pat. Not a bad book, just not much to discuss.
Our club enjoyed the time period and skillful writing that seamlessly blended the past and present. There was interesting, strong characters. While the tragedies in the book were many, they were realistic and continuously drive the plot forward.
When Paula leaves her hoarder husband for an extended break, she finds her heart, soul and past on the shores of Lake Superior. She also finds an adult relationship with her mother. We all dream of leaving bad situations behind and felt inspired by her resolve to seek a new life. Beautiful words pictures and a real sense of place made this a hit with our club.
This book was a departure for our club and a welcome one. Although at tines the plot slowed and the dialogue just average, the concept was fascinating-sci fi in a present setting. We felt there were many analogies of bigotry and terrorism. In the end we felt it was an engaging read but felt conflicted by some of the characters.
our club enjoyed this as a departure from some of the heavier books we've read of late. Gave us a look into Aspbergers, made us reflect on people who may fit this mold and loved the atypical yet believable romance. Not to mention made us aware of our BMI!
Loved the beautiful writing and novel based on a true story. We were all surprised abolitionist weren\\\\\\\'t about equality. Very informative and lovely story.
Living in Wisconsin, we all liked the local references. The plot was dark with a lot of dysfunction running through most of the characters. It was interesting but a little disturbing. Good discussion book.
We were all moved by the subject and the fallout of living with Alzheimer\\\'s. My mother is in the later stages of the disease although she did not have early onset. Our discussion was somber yet uplifting. It was a very thought-provoking book.
None of us knew about this part of history and we're fascinated by the background. The author headlined our local Book Festival and she was a great source of information
Looked for a non fiction read and this was tough for most of us as we wanted to learn more about the wolf culture, the story of Romeo and not the repetitive style of the storytelling. The ending was grim as we all were waiting for it to be. It did lead to discussion of the encroachment of man into the natural world and the instinct that lies beneath most wild animals. We were all repulsed by the perpetrators. Recommended with reservation - not for everyone
Cooking/food was not much of a factor in the plot. Very choppy and difficult to follow.
Initially this book had a lot of irritating characters who evolved into more understandable and in some cases more likable people. The romance was off putting to some of us - clearly a strange coming together of two people not meant to be together
Some members thought the book was a waste of time while some appreciated the humor and satire. It made for a good discussion.
