My Reviews
Overall our club liked this book . We didn't fell we learned anything we didn't know about the Underground Railway, but the author has good characters and descriptions.
Gripping description of the war-torn Chechnya. Wonderful characters and beautifully written. A great debut novel.
Our book club was nearly all agreed that this book was dark and sometimes repulsive. However, the history was very interesting and Hoffman\\\\\\\'s writing is compelling.
An intriguing read. Beautifully written with very well developed characters. Much more than the typical mystery.
We had mixed reviews in our club but all agreed that it truly is a young adult book particularly for those who know little about the immigrant experience in US cities. Most of our members agreed it was a pleasant read but lacked any depth and substance.
A very good, fast read. Lots of discussion about characters and their decisions. A debut novel so less sophisticated writing but a compelling story.
A truly wonderful book that generated a exciting meeting of our book club. The story is told masterfully with an intriguing method full of surprises making a very difficult topic come to life and creating a very memorable read.
This is the perfect book club selection. We could have discussed for many more hours. The mother daughter relationships alone can be the topic of one meeting!
I very good book. Our club enjoyed it and was thrilled to meet the author and have her join our book discussion. Learning about her research and devotion to getting this published was a treat.
