My Reviews
This would be great for character discussions as the author allows the reader to become quite familiar with the many characters in the book. Although the setting and characters are not in anyway extraordinary, the everyday decisions they make call for some interesting debates on moral and ethical levels. Long read but interesting outcome.
As the reader you are transported on a personal journey with the author, which is both arduous and spiritual. The amount of learning that happens as you make the long hike with Cheryl Strayed is an added bonus to reading her story.
A beautiful historical fiction novel that immerses the reader in the lives of very strong, independent women who survived life because of their knowledge, love and strength. A hard book to put down!
Although there were parts within the story that captured happenings in life with very strong images and beautiful prose, the majority of the story was too slow paced for me.
A fast read which on the surface seems almost too \\\"light\\\" a read but as the story unravels makes us wonder what is important in our busy everyday life. Alice loses 10 years of her memory after a fall and finds some interesting things about who she has become and not sure its all for the better.
There are always two sides to every story. This book takes us along the life of Changez, a Pakistaní, living and thriving in the USA and what happens to his life once 9/11 occurs. It's difficult to put oneself in other's shoes but perhaps his story will help understand what happened in the lives of many Muslims after 9/11.
I learned much about the history of Hungry and the plight of the Jewish people during the horrific time of WWII. Orringer\'s story connects you to the characters and sweeps you through the times and the life\'s of ordinary people in terrific times.
