This book provides a look into life and the value of taking in the details and the essence of just "being" in a place and/or a moment.
Easy reading novel set against a background in our national parks about a ex alcoholic school teacher getting a second chance for a meaningful life. Was a favorite for our book club.
Beautifully written with wonderful characters and relationships. It was a book that I didn't want to put down or end. A very enjoyable read. I wanted them to Take Me With You.
Book was very engaging. The writer's storytelling kept your interest from page one-inspiring.
Once you get past the hard-to-believe premise that a parent could turn over his children to a stranger, the book takes you on a sometimes sad, but often beautiful journey of friendship and self-discovery.
After reading the back of the book, I thought oh this is going to be so depressing, but it was a wonderful story. This is why I like Book Club it choses books I would not. I fell in love with the main character & the boys. It was a life changer for them
This book is very different from most other fiction plots involving children. The characters are interesting, the plot twists every now and then and the story is not predictable.
Everyone in the book club loved this book and we would highly recommend it to other clubs.
I thought it was very poignant. The relationship that developed between August and the two boys over one summer provided them all with hope that spanned many years. The ending was open, maybe there was even hope for the father?
