A heartwarming account of the joys and sorrows of dealing with a child with special needs.
I\\\'ve had the opportunity to read this twice over the past few months for two different book groups and both groups loved this book. The insight, albeit fictionalized, into Autism provided for some of the best discussions. Even though some readers felt the ending was a bit contrived, this book remained a well-thought of and highly liked read.
Ok not my favorite Lisa Genova book, but the lady can still write a good book. LOVE ANTHONY in the beginning takes place in Nantucket Island in winter(depressing weather), as two women (alternating chapters) try to rebuild their lives after different tragedies effect them. On one hand a wife has a cheating husband, on the other hand a mother grieves a lost son with autism.
Unbeknown to them, their lives interweave together.
Lisa provides a picture definition into the world of autism. Where most struggle to understand autism, Lisa introduces us to embracing it.
Not sure what my book club is going to say about it. They were not looking forward to reading another book about a boy with autism. LOVE ANTHONY wasn\\\\\\\'t just about that, it was about unconditional love and how to open our hearts and mind and let it in. It was a steady read, it made me feel good but in the end I felt cheated.
The character Beth was advised after she finished writing her book, \\\\\\\"you don\\\\\\\'t have the right ending yet\\\\\\\", well Lisa I believe that might be the same case here. You don\\\\\\\'t have the right ending...But I liked it
I connected with Beth finally taking time for herself and picking up her pen to write again. This is representative of so many women who put aside their aspirations to raise a family and keep the home fires burning. I went to college at age 35 (day classes with the 17 & 18 year olds) and it was great!
