This has the potential to be a great book highlighting and immigrants experience in creating compassion and understanding. However the lack of character development created a story that was flat, simplistic and with little vested emotion.
The Book of Unknown Americans provides insight into the hearts and minds of those who come to our country with aspirations and expectations. Reality is harsh, and not everyone realizes their dreams. Cultural norms clash with the immigrants. Fear and hate come from those who don't welcome these newcomers, with tragic consequences. The story is compelling, in that the humanity is so recognizable.
