"Overly long book with weak character development" by AnnM (see profile) 02/20/08

Girls in Trouble, a book with an interesting premise with the subject of open adoption gone wrong,is however, not highly recommended by our group. Character development is weak, and passages throughout the book are overly decriptive.

"powerful and modest" by Jonathan (see profile) 01/09/09

Caroline Leavitt is a modest writer. She will take on the dark corners without self-congratulation. By this I mean, she writes so effortless and glides through the thickets that the life of her characters and story become a part of one's own dreams. This is one of her very best books, I loved it. It made me really think, really feel. Imaging a 16 year old pregnant and torn between worlds of adolescence and "Adulthood" made this a vibrant, amazing journey for me... Because I don't usually think of that person, and Leavitt's artistry is in pulling me and other into paces we don't usually go--

A wonderful writer.

"This book really touched me" by Sallyone (see profile) 01/09/09

Caroline Leavitt has written eight beautiful novels. This is among her best. A story simply told, deeply felt, I was completely absorbed. I want her recognition to spread because there is something so lovely about her work, so rare... it often deals with the rawest human emotions and situations, but people triumph because they face some haunting human flaw. Just beautiful. highly recommended.

"outstanding" by Florence (see profile) 01/09/09

One of the women in our reading group had one of these experiences . It was powerful, just thinking about what I would do if I ever faced those choices. Caroline Leavitt is some writer. Wow. Don't miss it! (or her work!)
