Interesting view of turn of the century life on the midwest prairie. Challenges of living difficult life and society norms of that era. We thought it was a true picture of what life was like living in the midwest at that time. Antonia was a strong, adaptable and accepting main character.

A brilliantly told story about the challenges of life and growing up during pioneer days. I loved the characterization but, being a romantic, had hoped Jim and Antonia would grow old together. It was not to be.

This book was a pleasure to read. It slowly drew me in and made me grow close to characters as time went on. Was sorry when it ended. Learned alot about the immigrants in that area.

Considered a "classic," it was pleasantly nostalgic for a time and place in the development of the US. Neither action-packed nor profound, overall our group might've preferred reading something else but liked it well enough. A character study and mild social commentary told through the observing character only and thus more a recollection than the typical novel format. Our group discussed context, pioneer/immigrant life and women's roles.

First classic I've read in a long time, and it was much better than I expected. You see a very unique look at life on a prairie and how different families had to overcome various obstacles and the outcome it had on their lives.
