Our club had a great discussion on the main character, Lillian the Ice Cream Queen.
Lilian's fictional story which, as it turns out weaves together bits and pieces of ice cream history from several families was a fun education in ice cream. I did find that I wanted soft serve several times while reading the book.
The consensus of our members was positive. Everyone liked the book, found it informative especially for those who are not children of the immigrants that came into the country very early 1900's. We who are children of those immigrants do know of the hardships suffered by the people who came here to BE AMERICANS, those who assimilated and took America for its own country. This book shows how with all adversity the main character came to this country pulled up their boots and did what was necessary to make a successful life..Great book and wonderful for members to discuss
