Brilliantly written by Toni Morrison.
The story takes place following the Great Depression. It is a protrayal of racism, domestic violence, molestation, and incest. It is a tragic story of an improvished, unattractive young black girl desiring blue eyes, a devastating tale of events in the lives of individuals longing for acceptance and respect. The characters social standing greatly contributes to their feelings of inadequacy, self hatred and low self esteem.
Although Bluest Eyes is somewhat Gloom is honestly written and provides an insight into the lives of those less fortunate and how ones social standing can impact greatly on ones life.
