Loved the look into a real, rural family's extreme challenges during the 1930's and 40's in the Midwest. It helped make the history pages come alive.
Our diverse book club thoroughly enjoyed reading this memoir about the author's large Nebraska extended family and their experiences of living through the Depression, the Dust Bowl, and having four sons serve in WWII. The author's extensive research is evident but never boring, and our members appreciated several aspects of the family's experiences, including life in a large family during challenging times and military service in WWII. Family photos scattered throughout the book help readers visualize these extraordinary yet ordinary members of the Eymann family.
