"not a very appropriate book for other people" by kraza93 (see profile) 11/27/07

I didn't enjoy this book at all it was disgusting and I hated it. Maybe other people are into this type of stuff but I am not.

"Wonderfully refreshing!" by dweik (see profile) 02/04/08

This book was wonderfully refreshing! I love how the author wove family dynamics with magical overtones. Several of us in our book club read this for fun and ended up discussing it. True, it may not be for every taste but if you want a feel good 'story', this is it!

"LOVE this book" by Kathy E. (see profile) 05/06/08

Sarah's book is amazing! I read this book in 2 days. I could not put it down! Garden spells reminded me of Practical Magic. I am drawn to books about Earth Magic possibilitys and justice being done. This book was interesting for the way that each sister grieved for their mother in different ways, her death changed each of their life paths, but in the end brought them back together, to heal and be stronger. I will definately read this book again. :-)

"The voyages of self discovery and the special bonds that sisters can share if allowed to develop." by Sharon2002 (see profile) 08/18/08

I enjoyed this quiet little book; it snuck up on you with the dialogue and thoughts pulling you further into the magic world of self discovery.

I enjoyed the way the author allowed the sisters to discover and use their "powers" in both silly and serious matters of the heart.

A fun read for a summer afternoon.

A lovely little story with "magical" components a la Practical Magic and The Girl with No Shadow. Slow in the beginning, but quickly became an absorbing nice read with interesting storylines and framing of the story. Throughly enjoyed this entertaining novel.

"Unique book" by LauraAdams (see profile) 07/15/10

I found this book to be an interesting read. It has a touch of fantasy but not so much that it feels like an actual "fantasy" book. It is more to do with relationships with family and friends and small love story also.

It had all of these. Kept me reading wanting to know the outcome for both sisters.

I looked for the descriptive word "unusual" or at least something that indicated "a step away from the usual" and didn't find anything close to expressing my impression of the book. Liked it, as did all who read it, some more than others, of course. The author weaves magic throughout the story, such as an apple tree with decided opinions. As I indicated above: a step away from the usual.

Great book to read during the month of October.

that still has a bit of a storyline. This would be a good beach book. One you could look up from without guilt, but still finish without the feeling that you have wasted your time.

Above all struggles in life there is always family. Sarah Addison Allen plant a wonderful story of two sisters seperated by choice brought back together by faith. I loved each character. They had depth, strength and heart. Read this book.

Well written ...fun quirky characters

"Great choice for your book club" by Burgo49 (see profile) 08/30/14

The book is a VERY quick read...but since there were a number of characters in the story, it may have been TOO quick since none seemed to be fully developed. Definitely an easy book to discuss a book club. Using the questions found on LitLovers.com as a starting point, new topics were brought up and created an even more in-depth discussion.

I did like this book -- bit of whimsy and fantasy to it and if you don't mind this kind of story, its a good beach read. The Sequel FIRST FROST is ok, not quite as good

Excellent flowing story that keeps you wanting to read more.

"Fun Read!" by Vickiditomaso (see profile) 02/03/16

This book was very entertaining. It was well written, and held my attention. I loved how "fast" the read was. It did not inspire a lot of discussion on our book club, but everyone agreed that they definitely enjoyed the book.

"Lovely Fantasy" by lpollinger (see profile) 03/28/17

The Waverly family has always been a bit different. Claire makes things happen with the foods she cooks with ingredients from her garden. Evanelle has uncontrollable urges to give things to people. Sydney isn't sure what her gift is and she is trying to avoid it.
This is a lovely, different type of story that my bookclub is reading for the month of April.
