This book is written poorly. It is hard to read. Why waste your time on this book when there are many, many excellent books out there. This book does not belong on the list of good books.

A dark story about slavery in many forms--addiction, unscrupulous businesses, and self-imposed. Not an easy or comfortable read, but very well-written and characters well-developed.

Delicious Foods is a deep dive story that insightfully dives into themes of racism, slavery, addiction, and parent/child relationships, among others. Although not perfectly presented, the characters selected for telling the tale are unique, imaginative, and funny in a dark sense. This story can get very graphic and painful to read at times, so I would not recommend it to just anyone, but if you can keep the characters in the story I think it is definitely worth the time investment. It opened my eyes to the possibilites of worlds that I touch every day without even knowing it.

After the first read through, I reread in chronological order then........read it a third time to highlight verses I found to be poetic such as "under her nasal tone something cared so strongly that Eddie moved sideways down the bench a little, crablike, to avoid the power of her interest, fearing that she might get to know him against his will." and........"good intentions always trumped bad soul food" and......"he sought to translate the amazement in their faces into a stable income."
