I just could not get into the story. None of the characters were likable. Too many details about unimportant things...maybe I just wasn't in the mood for a classic....

"A true classic" by DebraF (see profile) 03/05/10

Enjoyed lengthy discussion on the themes of this book. Amazed at how little society has changed, relatively, since this book was written. Emma is a memorable and flawed character - unforgettable.

Difficult language, way too much description for that type of book.

Flaubert provides an insightful portrait of French bourgeois life in the mid-nineteenth century. Rich in detail, the novel is a perfect example of realism in which the details build both character and plot. Justly regarded as a classic for both content and style.
