Written in the poetic voice that is Morrison's trademark, this is a wonderful story of two friends and thier journeys through life. Intertwined is an examination of the complexity of mother daughter relationships. A wonderful selection for any women's book club!
Be as truthful as you can when admitting that you have never been in the shoes of the protagonists, and therefore not really fit to judge their actions, if you are a caucasion person and not an African American having lived before the 1950ies.
Toni Morrison dives straight to the center of women and friendships. The writing seems to include many undeveloped characters and story lines, but at its heart takes a look at the life long friendship journey of New and Sula. So much of this story is heartbreaking and tragic.
