This book generated a lot of conversation. Everyone that read it loved it. For me, it was an okay read. Some of the profiles of the wineries and the history behind them were very interesting, others not so much. We did enjoy sampling the wine though!
This book had several local connections for me which may have made it more interesting: local writer and stories of the Finger Lakes wineries. It felt like the author was telling the story about friends. I was surprised by the people that are drawn (and sometimes obsessed) by what seems like a very difficult career path. It is the individual stories of these individuals that are creating and working in the wine business and a wine community that is working together in a unique way.
Each story is of hard work, adversity, and hope. But the book is more than the sum of individual stories- it is the threads that bind them that made the book more interesting to me. There is a bit of grape growing and wine making detail along with the stories. It is informative without being boring and drawn out.
