This is a must read for your book club! The imagery and beauty in which the author tells the story of real-life Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi is superb. While the story is fiction, the major events are fact. Vreeland keeps you held in suspense through the trial and subsequent marriage. When Artemesia spreads her wings, you soar with her. Highly recommended.
I really loved this book. Although it is fiction you can see that Artemesia is the "Trailblazer" for the suffragettes. Being the first female accepted in the Academy was totally amazing for that time period for a woman to accomplish. I found a lot of things that happened in this book still happen today and people (men) seem to still think it is okay. There is still a lot to be discovered and talked about, However the main take away is that she never deviated from her goal of being the best artist she would be. Shows that everyone needs and should have this same goal. I have totally recommended this book o everyone. Hopefully they will read and enjoy it also.
