I really liked this book. I learned a lot about the Channel, the tides, the rules of doing the swimming and of course YAY Women for standing up and doing the swim despite the negative responses from the men. We had quite a lively discussion about this book. I totally recommend it.
Gertrude Eberle was not the only swimmer tackling the English Channel to be the first woman to cross it. This book introduces other swimmers trying to make their mark also. Interesting people and great descriptions of their attempts at fame. The weather, temperature and support teams were of vital importance in these endurance struggles.
