We loved this book. The characters were realistic and multi-faceted. The treatment of time and place were marvelous. Many were unable to put the book down!
There are so many other books out there. Why waste your time on a depressing family in a depressing town.
Would actually give more stars but I have reservations about recommending due to the deep sadness throughout book. The ending, however, points out a lesson that we should be reminded of more often. If a book doesn't have to be all happiness and light to be "good", this is worth a look!
Our group loved this book. We could all see the characters and where they lived so vividly. We all enjoyed discussing this family and all they went through.
Very descriptive of desolate Canada unpopulated areas. The pond was so intensive. Characters well drawn. Plot was good but Kate's way of looking at life and her family was very much the main problem which was resolved.
