"A young woman struggles with deafness and class structure in Victorian England." by teamshield (see profile) 10/17/07

If you like Jane Austen, you will LOVE this book. Veda Grenfell is a very uncommon young lady. She looses her mother and brother and then her hearing. She fights off the advances of an unscrupulous man and falls in love with a Lord. Engrossing and enchanting.

"A Really Good Story!" by RuthieA (see profile) 09/09/08

I could not get my book club to read this book, so I read it on my own. I really enjoyed it, although it is a little involved in descriptions and such. The main character Veda Grenfell is a wonderful character who is a century beyond her time. She is a strong and determined woman, and very ardent about the things she loves. She has much adversity in this story but maintains her character and sanity. Anyone who loves this time period will certainly love this book.
