Rosamunde Pilcher is a truly gifted author and this book is one of her very best. It's one of those books that truly transports you to other locations and times and that engages you to the point where you don't want to put it down... you must know what happens to these characters!

I really enjoyed this book. It had many twists and great life lessons.

A classic that has not become outdated, primarily because its themes are timeless. Much, but not all, of the book takes place during WWII, but it is not "a war novel" so much as it a thoughtful look back over three generations of a family with disparate personalities.

As good today as it was in the 80’s. Loved the presentation of the characters and the descriptions of the setting.
