I didn't like much about the book. I definitely don't recommend it.
Poorly written says it all! The dialogue was inconsistent, as were the characters. How could a middle class white man feel he could write about a poor uneducated black woman from the forties? The book showed his lack of understanding about women, Jewish people as well as blacks. It was very difficult to finish because it was so poorly done.
Sparked a lot of discussion - not all of it positive for the writer or the content!
Poorly written book full of unconvincing characters and unbelievable situations, The only positive thing I can say is that it did spark a very lively conversation at book club as we discussed the various things that frustrated us as we read it.
