This is a story about a family divided physically and philosophically by the Cuban revolution. I found the book poetic in the author's use of words and insightful in her description of events leading up to and after the revolution as well as the way her characters were affected by the revolution and each other.
This book reads like several long poems about three generations of women impacted by the changed social and political situation in Cuba: those who stay vs. those who leave, the decent into madness, and hope for future reconciliation.
