It opens your eyes to how people lived in the times of slavery. The local dialect used for much of it was sometimes difficult to understand; had to reread sentences.
In rereading Huck Finn as an adult I took so much more away from it than as a high school student. Of course, there are the social issues where most want to focus, but I looked at if from the adventure. I realized how limited I have been when it come to true adventures - tackling something/anything with an unknown outcome. Huck's ability to seek, survive and enjoy adventures stirred me to be a little more adventurous! I also enjoyed the friendship between Jim and Huck and the wisdom they shared barring education and civilization. What do you really have to have to have all you want?
