Northglenn Reads enjoyed this book. Some of us are from the midwest and we recognized the characters. We found Harveyville on the map, and talked a little about Mattie Spenser, another Dallas title, and what a "soddy" was, and what kind of house came even before the soddies.

We talked about women we knew who were also in Velmas position, and realized that "unwed mothers" are still in a heartbreaking situation today. Those of us who read the book twice were intrigued by the hints of mystery throughout the story. When Queenie says Ella would be upset by hearing about finding his body, not shocked by his death, we get a portent of what's to come. Some of us liked Queenie, some felt she was not as forthright as she seemed, and used the rhubarb pie as an example of subtrafuge. This aspect engaged us...and it linked to how and why they didn't want Lizzie Olive in the Pickles, and how Tom and Queenie treated the drifters. We also had some quilt books to browse through, and found the "Double Ax" or "Friendship" quilt design. What was Rita telling them with that pattern?

We made a "celebrity quilt" with our names on it and took pictures. Sandra Dallas lives nearby, and when we told her about our plans, she said "Sounds like you'll have more fun than the Pickles".

My book club read this last summer. We all enjoyed it. A little mystery, a little history, a wonderful narrator, and a great ending :-)

Honestly, not an award winning book but one that is a pleasure to read.

The group of women who form a quilting bee in this novel are not unlike many present-day book clubs! Their friendships and conflicts kept me interested as well as the twists and surprises in the plot. Being a native Kansan, I felt the author captured the quiet rhythms of Midwest life quite well. Not Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction but very enjoyable and makes for a good discussion.

The Persian Pickle Club is a group of ladies in 1930 Kansas that get together once and week and quilt.
When they find one of the husbands (who has been missing) murdered, the club comes together to support the widow.
I liked this book enough to buy other books by this author.

This was the second time that we chose this book for our club. It was the first book we read and we enjoyed it so much we decided to read it again. Everyone enjoyed the light read and the twist ending.

Quick read, fair character development, surprise story ending. A story of the community of women, which we believe was stronger and more tangible in years gone by, though it is nice to think we may still have that web of support and understanding in this day and age. We can be our own Persian Pickle club.

It was sweet. We all liked it but it wasn't a life changing book. It did pose some really interesting question at club and gave us a lot to discuss.

Everyone in our book club enjoyed reading about the pickle girls that share more than just quilting with each other. Fun read.
