WWII backdrop to this story but with a Turkish point of view. Proof that good men (and women) did not sit by and do nothing in the face of Nazi evil. Sacrifices were made, risks taken and lives were saved. However, somehow the translation from the original Turkish left the reader somewhat detached from the main characters which deadened the impact of an otherwise powerful story.
