Hug Chickenpenny is a modern-day fable for grown-ups, but make no mistake: this is no fairy tale. Our young protagonist, whom we follow throughout his unusual birth and lifespan, stands out- both for his extreme physical differences (even described as "grotesque" by some) and his gentle, yet eternally optimistic spirit. Hug is an unassuming hero- someone any of us who've ever felt a little "different" might easily relate to. While extremely dark at times and a bit over the top in certain moments....its also pretty hard to put down, because the characters are pretty fascinating. (My favorite character besides Hug? It would probably have to be the evil goat that has telekinetic pyro powers!) I won't spoil the ending for you, but it's one that will certainly stay with (or haunt) you in the weeks and months to come.
