I really enjoyed reading this book and learning about Mary. I just wish there was more information about her available.

This book brought to life the many struggles, heartache and difficulties experienced by our nation during the Civil War. Mary became real to me and I could feel her pain. I would have liked to know even more about Mary personally and a little less about the military battles. However, having recently seen the movie \\\"Lincoln\\\" this was a great personal perspective of the war.

I thought it was an insightful story of the life of a strong, courageous, and sweet woman. Her life was an amazing tale!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book because I learned about Mary and other brave, inspiring women that I never read about in history books.

Our book club really enjoyed reading this book. We liked the historical educational aspect of different slave experiences from Mary’s own experiences. We felt it was a well-written story which kept you interested.
