"A journalist writes about his experience in a hospital psychiatric ward" by kristorr (see profile) 12/26/06

Some members of our club enjoyed this book immensly and some did not enjoy it at all. While Jim Knipfel's account of his stay in a hospital psychiatric ward was disturbing and comedic at the same time, the ending was very disappointing and left most of us dissatisfied. The book did bring up many discussions of the mental health care system, and how unbelievably archaic it was at the time Knipfel had his experience.

Overall it was a very easy, quick read, but did not leave you with an especially good feeling after finishing it.

"A story about a "sane" guy in an insane asylum" by Anais (see profile) 04/17/07

I really enjoyed this book, but no everyone in my club shared my perception. The account of a person's stay in a psych ward is very interesting and the author is a very good story teller. Who would have expected to laugh outloud while reading a serious book. However, I don't think there is a lot to talk about especially if some members just didn't like the story. The best discussion was whether Jim was really insane or not.
