This book is perfect for book clubs and for others! One great thing about this book is that it asks, very pointedly, "Just because mankind can do something technologically, biomedically, or otherwise; should mankind forge ahead without regard for the consequences, especially the unintended consequences?
Well, there is hope for mankind if we meet our future properly, with forethought and with logic AND compassion. Otherwise, we can see through our reading of this great classic just what course we are taking.
Consider carefully all aspects of any individual, societal, or global decision.
Additionally, there are some movies that could go along with this book, while they do not necessarily follow the book it could be an interesting comparison. One really should watch the Mel Brooks version with Gene Wilder, and Marty Feldman, among a great cast of comedic others to lighten the tone after the somewhat possibly depressing read.

One of the biggest reasons why this story is so great for a book club is because there are so many different topics you can discuss. This is the third time I've read this story, and amazingly enough, I again was able to find ideas to talk about that I never encountered the first two times I read it. Not only that, but because it is such a classic, there are plenty of literary critisims available to help along with the discussion.

Frankenstein is slow to start, but then grabs your imagination. Nature vs. Nurture? The Ethics of Scientific Study? are great book discussion topics explored by Shelley\\\'s \\\"Frankenstein\\\". So much more than a horror story.

We all agreed this book was a wonderful read. The language of the time took just a little while to acclimate to, and once done, the story was haunting and emotional. Would recommend that readers do a bit of research into the author\\\'s history...it made for very interesting discussion!
