Loved this book!! Knowing the history and locality in this story only added to the intrigue of this story. So well written, easily flips from 1885/6 to 2014 to tell the tales of two amazing women. If you love historical fiction this is a must read!!

"Historical Mystery at its best" by [email protected] (see profile) 07/09/18

This carefully and extensively researched novel tells the story of poor Tillie Morris who was murdered outside Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. For many years a local legend, Tille is brought to life and the true circumstances of her death is brought to light in this well-written novel. I'm so glad that the author chose to research and tell the story of Tillie who deserves that justice is served at least in light of the information surrounding her death. The parallel story of the cemetery keeper's wife who explores Tillie's death also brings a convincing aspect to the research portion of the story. I've also read another work by this author (The Richest Season) and I look forward to her future books.

3.5
i did enjoy this book and appreciated the link between Rachel and Tillie...and the exploration of what happened to both of them and how their reputations were treated. There were a few spots that were a bit vague...the night Rachel dresses up for the "walk" and how quickly you are supposed to accept what she experiences...i found that wasn't explained much . But a good read.
